The brand
Serge Ferrari makes the fabric, and others turn it into blinds, pergolas or sails. The company was founded in 1973 in La Tour-du-Pin, Isère, where its head office and its three Précontraint production lines are still based.
Its fabrics range from terrace blinds to stadium roofs. For the home, the manufacturer groups them under three names: Soltis for shade, Batyline for furniture, Stamoid for boats.
Serge Ferrari fabrics
Each fabric has its purpose: stopping rain or letting air through, keeping the view or blacking out.
Soltis 502 Proof is a waterproof fabric for shade sails and pergola roofs. It is woven from fully recycled polyester yarn and comes in 35 colours. The manufacturer states it withstands winds of up to 160 km/h for a 12 m² sail.
Soltis 96 is made for awnings. Micro-perforated, it lets air through, keeps the view outside and limits the heat that builds up under the awning.
For vertical blinds, with or without a zip. Serge Ferrari states up to 87% of heat blocked with Soltis 86 and up to 97% with Soltis Veozip, while keeping the view outside.
Under a fixed or retractable pergola, a waterproof fabric forms the roof. Soltis 96 Proof and 502 Proof are also used for terrace velums.
Batyline is the fabric for sling seats, deckchairs and outdoor cushions. The manufacturer highlights its resistance to abrasion and UV, and its easy care.
What sets it apart
While it is being coated, the polyester micro-cable base is held under tension in both directions. Serge Ferrari patented this process in 1974.
According to the manufacturer, the fabric does not deform under load: there is no need to re-tension it after installation.
Up to 87% of heat blocked for Soltis 86, up to 97% for Soltis Veozip. These are maximums, specific to each fabric and to certain colours.
Micro-perforated fabrics let you see outside with the blind lowered. Soltis 86 has an openness factor of 14%.
Outdoor Soltis fabrics are classified Euroclass B-s2,d0.
Soltis 502 Proof is woven from 100% recycled polyester yarn.
Serge Ferrari states a 5-year warranty on its Soltis fabrics. It covers the fabric alone, and its terms are the manufacturer's.
