A LumiDesign project in Corsica: bespoke bioclimatic pergola, blinds and outdoor fit-out Casa Ghjovi

The Casa Ghjovi pergola is anthracite. It covers a summer kitchen and its pool, among the pines, in front of a villa of stone and black cladding. The photographs show the louvres from below, in a chevron against the sky, and from the air, turning the corner. Above the walkway, a cable-stayed louvred canopy extends the façade. Here the pergola shelters an outdoor living space, the summer kitchen. Angling the louvres sets the shade, and air keeps flowing beneath the roof.

The Casa Ghjovi blind is a side blind, fitted to one side of the summer kitchen pergola. Half lowered, it stripes the wall with shadow. Fully lowered, it closes the exposed side while the rest of the pergola stays open. That is what an exterior blind does on a pergola: you close one side against low sun, wind or prying eyes when you need to, then raise it again. The sheet also lists interior blinds, which the photo story does not show.

At Casa Ghjovi, the outdoor fit-out can be seen along the pool, where the loungers are lined up in front of the single-storey house, and under the pergola, with the summer kitchen and its pool. Fitting out the outdoors means choosing and arranging what the shade protects, such as a dining area, sunloungers or a space for cooking outside. The pieces are made to stay outdoors. We plan them alongside the sun protection, so the terrace is used from morning to the end of the day. The last photograph in the story shows that hour, over the pool.
