LumiDesign project in Corsica: made-to-measure bioclimatic pergola, blinds and outdoor fit-out Casa Sabbatu

Casa Sabbatu is a town residence, and its bioclimatic pergola is photographed from below. The louvred ceiling covers the whole terrace, with a summer kitchen, a table and a lounge. The gulf can be glimpsed beyond. The adjustable louvres control shade and light through the day and close to give shelter. Beneath this ceiling, the terrace works like a room of the house. A vertical blind, fitted on the front of the pergola, complements the louvres.

The blind at Casa Sabbatu is a vertical blind, lowered at the centre of the pergola. The gulf can be glimpsed through the fabric, and the summer kitchen and the table stay behind it. On a pergola, an outdoor blind closes one side against low sun, wind or overlooking neighbours, and the fabric still lets the view show through. It is raised when no longer needed. The specification also lists indoor blinds, which the photo story does not show.

The outdoor fit-out at Casa Sabbatu sits beneath the pergola. A summer kitchen, a table and a lounge are arranged under the louvred ceiling, behind the vertical blind. The residents live outdoors in town, sheltered from sun and prying eyes. We plan these pieces together with the shading, so that the terrace serves for meals as well as for rest. This is where they unwind after a busy day, as the specification puts it.
