Made-to-measure shade sail in Corsica

A shade sail, made to measure, casts shade over your terrace, your garden or your pool.

LumiDesign designs and installs made-to-measure shade sails. They protect your outdoor space from the sun and give it a modern look. On a terrace, in a garden or beside a pool, they blend into the setting.

We work throughout Corsica: Ajaccio, Bastia, Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio, Île-Rousse and beyond. Our sails are made from quality materials. They are robust, withstand the island's climate and protect you effectively, for a long time.

Curved edges The edges are cut in a curve, to spread the tension across the whole fabric.

High point, low point With anchors at different heights, the fabric forms a saddle and water runs towards the low point.

Tensioner At each corner, a tensioner pulls the fabric taut.

Mast Where the house ends, a mast takes over. Its height sets the slope of the fabric.

Tensioned fabric A fabric tensioned between several anchor points, which stops the sun and lets air through.

Façade anchor A plate fixed into the wall. The installation is safe and durable if the anchor points are securely fixed.

  2. At noon, the sun is at its highest and the four-point fabric covers the lounge. At noon, four points cover the lounge.
  3. In the afternoon, the shadow has turned towards the east and two sails cross. In the afternoon, two sails cross.
  4. In the evening, the sun is low and slips under the fabric, which stands out against the sky. In the evening, the sun slips under the fabric.

The need

Sun, heat, and rain.

A shade sail is a fabric tensioned between several anchor points, to create shade.

The summer sun
It protects effectively against UV rays.
The heat
It lets air through, naturally ventilating the space in summer.
A terrace, a garden, a pool
Each sail is made to measure, to cover the area properly.
The island's climate
Our fabrics resist bad weather, UV and water.
Rain
The sail protects first and foremost from the sun. With a waterproof fabric, it offers partial protection; it does not replace a permanent shelter such as a pergola.

Shade sail in Calvi

What changes in Calvi.

Paved terrace in late-afternoon light: a wood and rope sofa and armchair with terracotta cushions, a round blue coffee table on a jute rug, two sun loungers and a cantilever parasol; an olive tree and a stone façade on the left; in the background, the bay and the citadel of Calvi.

  1. Light shade

Shade, without closing off the sky.

On a stone terrace, in a Balagne village or on the heights above Calvi, the sail gives light shade where a structure would look heavy. It is tensioned between the façade, a wall or masts, and positioned according to the sun’s path over the terrace.

Three points are enough for a corner, four to cover the dining area. The anchors are fixed at different heights: the fabric takes on a saddle shape, which stiffens it and sends water towards the low point. Fitted too flat, it holds water.

  2. The fabric

    Choosing the fabric.

Serge Ferrari designs its Soltis 502 Proof for shade sails: a waterproof fabric, woven from recycled polyester yarns, in 35 colours. The manufacturer states that a 12 m² sail made from this fabric withstands winds of up to 160 km/h.

According to Serge Ferrari, its Précontraint process stops the fabric deforming under load, with no need to retension it after installation. A micro-perforated fabric, on the other hand, lets air and water through: it all depends on what you expect, shade alone or shelter from a shower as well.

  3. The libeccio and the anchors

It all comes down to the anchor points.

A sail works in the wind, and the libeccio on the west coast pulls on every one of its points. An old stone façade, a boundary wall or a mast anchored in the ground are not treated the same way: at the technical visit, we look at each fixing point with you.

For a holiday home, think too about the months you are away: a sail left up all winter takes the wind and the salt with nobody to keep an eye on it. We discuss this at the visit, so the sail stays easy to live with from one season to the next.

    Ask us a question

Your questions, our answers.

Do you install shade sails in Calvi?

Yes, in Calvi and the Balagne, as everywhere in Corsica. The technical visit takes place at your home: we measure and look at the fixing points, the exposure and the access. Our team then tensions the sail. The Calvi page presents our other services.

Does a shade sail stand up to the wind in the Balagne?

It all depends on the anchors and the tension. Serge Ferrari states that a 12 m² sail in Soltis 502 Proof withstands winds of up to 160 km/h. On site, we check each fixing point and how exposed the terrace is to the libeccio.

Does a shade sail protect from rain?

Its first job is shade. With a waterproof fabric such as Soltis 502 Proof and enough slope, it gives partial protection from rain, without replacing a permanent shelter such as a bioclimatic pergola.

Can a sail be fixed to a stone façade?

That depends on the condition of the wall and the load the sail will put on it. We check this at the technical visit; if the façade is not suitable, a mast can take over.

How much does a shade sail cost in Calvi?

Each sail is made to measure: the price depends on the size, the fabric and the anchors. We set it on quotation, after the technical visit.

How can I contact you to discuss my sun protection or outdoor design project?

Our team answers your questions and presents our services. You can reach us in three ways:

What is a shade sail and what are its advantages?

A shade sail is a fabric tensioned between several anchor points to create shade. It protects effectively against UV rays and lets air through. Beautiful and practical, it makes outdoor spaces comfortable in summer.

How long does a shade sail last?

Made from quality materials and regularly maintained, a shade sail can last for several years. Our fabrics resist bad weather, UV and water, which helps them last even in the Corsican climate.

How do I choose the right size for my shade sail?

The size of the sail depends on the area you want to cover: a terrace, a garden, a pool. Our experts work out the right dimensions for your project with you. Each sail is then made to measure, to cover that area properly.
