We design and install made-to-measure bioclimatic pergolas, suited to conditions in Corsica. Their adjustable louvres control sunlight and ventilation, summer and winter alike. We work across the island: Ajaccio, Bastia, Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio, Île-Rousse and elsewhere.
The structure is aluminium, robust and precisely made. It comes from Biossun, a manufacturer founded in 2009, and Victor Paquelet, who runs LumiDesign, has been installing pergolas since 2015. We design each pergola for the place where it will stand, on a terrace, by a pool or in a garden, so that it fits in and lasts.

Biossun states that all its models are certified by the CSTB, the French Scientific and Technical Centre for Building, with which it has worked since 2013. According to the manufacturer, this certification guarantees that the pergola withstands everyday weather conditions.

On the hills
A terrace facing the bay.
On the hills of the Balagne, the terrace is often the room you live in during summer: you have lunch there, entertain there, look out at the citadel and the bay. The summer sun beats down on it hard and long, on paving that heats up. A bioclimatic pergola covers this room without closing it in.
Its aluminium louvres pivot to adjust the shade. Half open, they let air circulate and heat escape upwards; closed, they give full shade and keep out a downpour. In the evening, when the heat drops, you open them to see the sky again.
Biossun, a manufacturer founded in 2009, makes its bioclimatic pergolas in Isère and states that all its models are CSTB certified. Pratic designs and builds its own in Fagagna, in Friuli: depending on the model, its louvres rotate up to 140°, slide back to open up the sky, or lift and stack.
With Pratic, when the louvres are closed, rain runs into an integrated drainage system and then down through gutters concealed in the posts. Raso vertical blinds or Glass Series glazing can close off one side, the one that takes the most wind.
The libeccio blows hard on the west coast. So a pergola is fixed to a support that holds it: a slab, a wall, a façade. At the technical visit, we look at this support, the terrace’s exposure to the wind, and access for the installation, which sometimes takes some organising on a hillside.
Near the bay, the air carries salt. For its aluminium, Pratic highlights two labels designed for the seaside: a Qualicoat Seaside pretreatment and Qualicoat Class 2 coating powders, which target salt, humidity and UV. Can a bioclimatic pergola withstand the libeccio?
It is fixed to a solid support and designed for the terrace it sits on. On a hillside in the Balagne, two neighbouring terraces do not catch the wind in the same way: we look at this on site. Pratic also offers weather sensors as an option.
Do you need permission to install a pergola in Calvi?
Most often, a prior declaration of works is enough; depending on the area or the zone, a building permit may be required. Your town hall will confirm this. We help you with these formalities.
Bioclimatic pergola or fabric pergola?
The aluminium louvres of the bioclimatic pergola adjust precisely and stay in place all year round. On a fabric pergola, a PVC fabric slides along the roof and folds back when you no longer need it. With the libeccio, and for a house that is often closed, we compare the two with you, on site.
