Made-to-measure shade sail in Corsica

A shade sail, made to measure, casts shade over your terrace, your garden or your pool.

LumiDesign designs and installs made-to-measure shade sails. They protect your outdoor space from the sun and give it a modern look. On a terrace, in a garden or beside a pool, they blend into the setting.

We work throughout Corsica: Ajaccio, Bastia, Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio, Île-Rousse and beyond. Our sails are made from quality materials. They are robust, withstand the island's climate and protect you effectively, for a long time.

Curved edges The edges are cut in a curve, to spread the tension across the whole fabric.

High point, low point With anchors at different heights, the fabric forms a saddle and water runs towards the low point.

Tensioner At each corner, a tensioner pulls the fabric taut.

Mast Where the house ends, a mast takes over. Its height sets the slope of the fabric.

Tensioned fabric A fabric tensioned between several anchor points, which stops the sun and lets air through.

Façade anchor A plate fixed into the wall. The installation is safe and durable if the anchor points are securely fixed.

  2. At noon, the sun is at its highest and the four-point fabric covers the lounge. At noon, four points cover the lounge.
  3. In the afternoon, the shadow has turned towards the east and two sails cross. In the afternoon, two sails cross.
  4. In the evening, the sun is low and slips under the fabric, which stands out against the sky. In the evening, the sun slips under the fabric.

It protects effectively against UV rays.
The heat
It lets air through, naturally ventilating the space in summer.

The sail protects first and foremost from the sun. With a waterproof fabric, it offers partial protection; it does not replace a permanent shelter such as a pergola.

Shade sail in Cap Corse

What changes in Cap Corse.

Stone-paved terrace at sunset: wooden sofa with terracotta cushions, round blue coffee table, armchair, sun loungers under a parasol with a wooden pole; beyond a low wall, a waterside village, a tower on the headland and the sea.

  1. The anchor points

Three or four points, well chosen.

A shade sail is a fabric tensioned between several anchor points. In a Cap village, one of these points is often the house itself: a stone wall, a corner, a roof overhang. The others are masts set into the ground, or a low wall when it is solid enough. At the technical visit, we look at what each point can hold.

Three points are enough for a triangular sail, which shades a corner of the terrace. With four points, at different heights, the sail covers a dining area or a lounge. On a terraced plot, these differences in height often come naturally.

  2. Tension

A taut fabric holds better in the wind.

A poorly tensioned sail flaps, snaps and wears out quickly; in the Cap, where the wind comes off the sea from one side or the other, it is the first thing to get right. We work with Serge Ferrari fabrics, made using a process that keeps the base fabric under tension during coating: according to the manufacturer, the fabric does not deform under load and does not need retensioning after installation.

Serge Ferrari designs the waterproof Soltis 502 Proof for shade sails and states that it holds up to 160 km/h for a 12 m² sail. A sail is still protection from the sun: when the wind really picks up, it is better to take it down.

  3. Rain

    A slope for the water.

A sail that is too flat holds rainwater, which makes it sag. By setting the anchor points at different heights, the fabric takes a saddle shape and the water runs off to the low point. Some sails also have a drainage system to clear it better.

Even when waterproof, a sail only partly protects from rain and does not replace a permanent shelter. If you want a terrace covered all year round, look at the pergola instead. Soltis 502 Proof comes in 35 colours, enough to match the sail to the stone of the house.

Your questions, our answers.

Do you install shade sails in Cap Corse?

Yes. Our showroom is in Porticcio, near Ajaccio, and we work throughout Corsica, Cap Corse included. The technical visit takes place at your home, then our team fixes the anchors and tensions the sail.

Can a shade sail be fixed to the wall of a stone house?

Often, yes, if the stone and the joints can take the load. We check this at the technical visit. Otherwise, a mast set into the ground takes the place of the wall.

Does a shade sail stand up to the wind in the Cap?

Well tensioned, it holds better. Serge Ferrari states that it holds up to 160 km/h for a 12 m² sail in Soltis 502 Proof. When the wind really picks up, it is still wise to take it down.

What shape of sail for a small village terrace?

A triangle, on three points, shades a corner of the terrace. To cover a table or a lounge area, a four-point sail, at different heights. See our page on the shade sail.

How much does a shade sail cost in Cap Corse?

It is made to measure: its price depends on the size, the fabric and the anchors. We price it on quotation, after the technical visit.

How can I contact you to discuss my sun protection or outdoor design project?

Our team answers your questions and presents our services. You can reach us in three ways:

What is a shade sail and what are its advantages?

A shade sail is a fabric tensioned between several anchor points to create shade. It protects effectively against UV rays and lets air through. Beautiful and practical, it makes outdoor spaces comfortable in summer.

How long does a shade sail last?

Made from quality materials and regularly maintained, a shade sail can last for several years. Our fabrics resist bad weather, UV and water, which helps them last even in the Corsican climate.

How do I choose the right size for my shade sail?

The size of the sail depends on the area you want to cover: a terrace, a garden, a pool. Our experts work out the right dimensions for your project with you. Each sail is then made to measure, to cover that area properly.
