Shade sail in Corte, Haute-Corse: supply and installationShade, and air.

Cream triangular shade sail stretched between the wall of a stone house and a black mast, above a paved terrace: folding bistro tables and chairs, potted plants, a low stone wall; in the background, a citadel on its rock, houses and mountains.

Between two stone walls, above a courtyard or a sloping garden, a tensioned sail gives light shade where a pergola would not fit. It is attached to the house, to a wall or to masts.

Made-to-measure shade sail in Corsica

A shade sail, made to measure, casts shade over your terrace, your garden or your pool.

LumiDesign designs and installs made-to-measure shade sails. They protect your outdoor space from the sun and give it a modern look. On a terrace, in a garden or beside a pool, they blend into the setting.

We work throughout Corsica: Ajaccio, Bastia, Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio, Île-Rousse and beyond. Our sails are made from quality materials. They are robust, withstand the island's climate and protect you effectively, for a long time.

Curved edges The edges are cut in a curve, to spread the tension across the whole fabric.

High point, low point With anchors at different heights, the fabric forms a saddle and water runs towards the low point.

Tensioner At each corner, a tensioner pulls the fabric taut.

Mast Where the house ends, a mast takes over. Its height sets the slope of the fabric.

Tensioned fabric A fabric tensioned between several anchor points, which stops the sun and lets air through.

Façade anchor A plate fixed into the wall. The installation is safe and durable if the anchor points are securely fixed.

  2. At noon, the sun is at its highest and the four-point fabric covers the lounge. At noon, four points cover the lounge.
  3. In the afternoon, the shadow has turned towards the east and two sails cross. In the afternoon, two sails cross.
  4. In the evening, the sun is low and slips under the fabric, which stands out against the sky. In the evening, the sun slips under the fabric.

The need

Sun, heat, and rain.

A shade sail is a fabric tensioned between several anchor points, to create shade.

The summer sun
It protects effectively against UV rays.
The heat
It lets air through, naturally ventilating the space in summer.
A terrace, a garden, a pool
Each sail is made to measure, to cover the area properly.
The island's climate
Our fabrics resist bad weather, UV and water.
Rain
The sail protects first and foremost from the sun. With a waterproof fabric, it offers partial protection; it does not replace a permanent shelter such as a pergola.

Shade sail in Corte

What changes in Corte.

  1. The anchor points

Stretching the fabric between the stones.

A shade sail is a fabric tensioned between several anchor points. Around Corte, these points are taken on an old wall, on the corner of a house, or on masts set into a sloping terrace. Everything depends on the strength of these points and the tension of the fabric.

That is why the technical visit matters: we look at the masonry, the space for a mast, and the access to bring it in when the lane is narrow. Our team then fixes the anchors and tensions the fabric; on an old wall, it is better not to do it yourself.

  2. The fabric

A fabric for shade or rain.

We work with Serge Ferrari fabrics. Soltis 502 Proof is waterproof and comes in 35 colours; the manufacturer states that it holds up to 160 km/h for a 12 m² sail. According to Serge Ferrari, its fabrics do not deform under load and do not need re-tensioning after installation.

A micro-perforated fabric lets air through, which helps in the dry summer heat, but it also lets water through. To stay sheltered in a storm downpour, you need a waterproof fabric and a slope: in a saddle shape, the water runs to the low point, whereas a fabric that is too flat holds it.

  3. The seasons

Taut in summer, and in winter?

The sail is made for the fine season. It gives shade in the afternoon, when the sun beats down in the valley, and its shadow turns with the sun. We choose the shape, the height of the points and the orientation with you, so that it covers the table at the time you are there.

In winter, in Corte, it freezes and can snow. Should the sail stay up or be taken down? We do not give a ready-made answer: we discuss it at the technical visit, according to the fabric, the anchors and the location of the house.

Your questions, our answers.

Do you install shade sails in Corte?

Yes, in Corte and the surrounding villages. Our showroom is in Porticcio, near Ajaccio, and we work throughout Corsica. We come to see the site, then our team fixes the anchors and tensions the sail. Describe your courtyard or terrace in the quote request.

Can a shade sail be attached to a stone wall?

Often, but not always: it all depends on the condition of the wall and the load the tensioned fabric will put on it. When the wall is not suitable, a mast takes over. We look at it at your home, during the technical visit.

Does a shade sail protect from storm rain?

Partly, with a waterproof fabric such as Soltis 502 Proof from Serge Ferrari and enough slope. It does not replace a permanent shelter: for that, look at the bioclimatic pergola.

Should a shade sail be taken down in winter in Corte?

The question arises here, where it freezes and can snow. The answer depends on the fabric, the anchors and the location: we look at it with you during the technical visit, before installation.

How much does a shade sail cost in Corte?

Each sail is made to measure: its price depends on the fabric, the dimensions and the anchors. We price it on quotation, after the technical visit.

How can I contact you to discuss my sun protection or outdoor design project?

Our team answers your questions and presents our services. You can reach us in three ways:

What is a shade sail and what are its advantages?

A shade sail is a fabric tensioned between several anchor points to create shade. It protects effectively against UV rays and lets air through. Beautiful and practical, it makes outdoor spaces comfortable in summer.

How long does a shade sail last?

Made from quality materials and regularly maintained, a shade sail can last for several years. Our fabrics resist bad weather, UV and water, which helps them last even in the Corsican climate.

How do I choose the right size for my shade sail?

The size of the sail depends on the area you want to cover: a terrace, a garden, a pool. Our experts work out the right dimensions for your project with you. Each sail is then made to measure, to cover that area properly.
