Made-to-measure shade sail in Corsica

A shade sail, made to measure, casts shade over your terrace, your garden or your pool.

LumiDesign designs and installs made-to-measure shade sails. They protect your outdoor space from the sun and give it a modern look. On a terrace, in a garden or beside a pool, they blend into the setting.

We work throughout Corsica: Ajaccio, Bastia, Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio, Île-Rousse and beyond. Our sails are made from quality materials. They are robust, withstand the island's climate and protect you effectively, for a long time.

Curved edges The edges are cut in a curve, to spread the tension across the whole fabric.

High point, low point With anchors at different heights, the fabric forms a saddle and water runs towards the low point.

Tensioner At each corner, a tensioner pulls the fabric taut.

Mast Where the house ends, a mast takes over. Its height sets the slope of the fabric.

Tensioned fabric A fabric tensioned between several anchor points, which stops the sun and lets air through.

Façade anchor A plate fixed into the wall. The installation is safe and durable if the anchor points are securely fixed.

  2. At noon, the sun is at its highest and the four-point fabric covers the lounge. At noon, four points cover the lounge.
  3. In the afternoon, the shadow has turned towards the east and two sails cross. In the afternoon, two sails cross.
  4. In the evening, the sun is low and slips under the fabric, which stands out against the sky. In the evening, the sun slips under the fabric.

The need

Sun, heat, and rain.

A shade sail is a fabric tensioned between several anchor points, to create shade.

The summer sun
It protects effectively against UV rays.
The heat
It lets air through, naturally ventilating the space in summer.
A terrace, a garden, a pool
Each sail is made to measure, to cover the area properly.
The island's climate
Our fabrics resist bad weather, UV and water.
Rain
The sail protects first and foremost from the sun. With a waterproof fabric, it offers partial protection; it does not replace a permanent shelter such as a pergola.

Shade sail in Propriano

What changes in Propriano.

Woven sun loungers with beige cushions lined up under two grey parasols with wooden poles, on a light stone pool deck; stone and timber villa, anthracite grey pergola on the upper terrace and palm trees.

  1. Shade with no frame

Shade with neither post nor roof.

A patio between two walls, a pool deck, a dining area in front of a village house in the Sartenais: the sail hooks onto what is already there, façade, wall or mast, and covers the space without closing it in. It is positioned according to the sun’s path over the spot to be protected.

The fixing points are set at different heights. The fabric then twists slightly, which stiffens it and channels rainwater towards one corner; tensioned flat, it would form pockets.

  2. Soltis 502 Proof

A waterproof fabric made for sails.

Soltis 502 Proof is the fabric Serge Ferrari intends for shade sails and pergola roofs. Waterproof, it is woven from 100 % recycled polyester yarn and comes in 35 colours. The manufacturer states it holds up to 160 km/h for a 12 m² sail.

The manufacturer explains that its Précontraint process keeps the fabric stable under load, with no need to re-tension it. An open-weave fabric, by contrast, lets air and water through: tell us whether you want shade only or shelter as well.

    See Serge Ferrari fabrics
  3. The anchor points

The wind from the gulf pulls on every corner.

When the sea wind enters the gulf, it pulls on every fixing point. Fresh render, old stone masonry or a sealed-in mast do not take the same load: we examine them one by one at the technical visit, and we add a mast when a wall is not strong enough.

In a house lived in mainly in summer, think about winter: a sail left up spends the bad season alone against the gales. We plan with you how to unhook it and store it easily at the end of the season.

    Ask us a question

Your questions, our answers.

Do you put up shade sails in Propriano?

Yes, in Propriano and throughout the Gulf of Valinco, as in the rest of Corsica. We come to see the supports and take the measurements, then our team installs the sail. Our four other services are gathered on the Propriano page.

Which fabric for a shade sail near the sea?

A waterproof fabric such as Soltis 502 Proof by Serge Ferrari, rated by the manufacturer to withstand up to 160 km/h on a 12 m² sail. We check the anchor points and the wind exposure on site.

Can you stay under the sail when it rains?

Partly, if the fabric is waterproof and steep enough. Its main role is still shade; if you want a real roof, a bioclimatic pergola is better suited.

Can a sail be put up without installing a mast?

Yes, if the façade or walls can take the load. Otherwise, a mast adds to the fixing points. We decide together at the technical visit.

What does a shade sail cost in Propriano?

Each sail has its own price, depending on its size, its fabric and its anchor points. We provide it on quotation, after the visit to your home.

How can I contact you to discuss my sun protection or outdoor design project?

Our team answers your questions and presents our services. You can reach us in three ways:

What is a shade sail and what are its advantages?

A shade sail is a fabric tensioned between several anchor points to create shade. It protects effectively against UV rays and lets air through. Beautiful and practical, it makes outdoor spaces comfortable in summer.

How long does a shade sail last?

Made from quality materials and regularly maintained, a shade sail can last for several years. Our fabrics resist bad weather, UV and water, which helps them last even in the Corsican climate.

How do I choose the right size for my shade sail?

The size of the sail depends on the area you want to cover: a terrace, a garden, a pool. Our experts work out the right dimensions for your project with you. Each sail is then made to measure, to cover that area properly.
