We design and install made-to-measure bioclimatic pergolas, suited to conditions in Corsica. Their adjustable louvres control sunlight and ventilation, summer and winter alike. We work across the island: Ajaccio, Bastia, Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio, Île-Rousse and elsewhere.
The structure is aluminium, robust and precisely made. It comes from Biossun, a manufacturer founded in 2009, and Victor Paquelet, who runs LumiDesign, has been installing pergolas since 2015. We design each pergola for the place where it will stand, on a terrace, by a pool or in a garden, so that it fits in and lasts.

Aluminium structureFour powder-coated posts carry the roof. Rainwater runs down inside; there is no visible gutter.
Wall lightsOn the house wall, two lights take over in the evening. They are not part of the pergola.

Biossun states that all its models are certified by the CSTB, the French Scientific and Technical Centre for Building, with which it has worked since 2013. According to the manufacturer, this certification guarantees that the pergola withstands everyday weather conditions.

A bioclimatic pergola covers the terrace with a roof of aluminium louvres. Open, they let air and light through; closed, they give full shade and keep out the rain. On a Cap terrace, where you can go from full sun to a gale in a few hours, this adjustment changes how the terrace is used through the day.
At Pratic, the louvres rotate up to 140° on the Opera and Vision models, slide on the Brera, and lift and stack on the Carrera. With the louvres closed, rain runs into an integrated drainage system, then down through gutters hidden in the posts. Weather sensors are available as an option.
A pergola is fixed against the house or stands alone, on its own posts. Against an old stone wall, it all depends on what the wall can carry: we look at this at the technical visit before choosing. On a narrow terrace, or at the end of a terraced garden, a freestanding pergola avoids touching the façade.
Aluminium can be lacquered in many colours: Pratic offers more than thirty in its colour chart, and RAL on request. In front of a stone façade or under a stone-slab roof, a dark colour or one close to the stone is often chosen, so that the structure stays discreet.
In the Cap, a terrace takes the sea spray whether it faces east or west. Pratic states an aluminium pretreatment certified Qualicoat Seaside and Qualicoat Class 2 powder coatings, designed for salt, humidity and UV. For a house exposed to sea spray, we look with you at the location and the upkeep to plan for.
When the wind hits the terrace from the side, one or more sides can be closed: Pratic offers Raso vertical blinds, which disappear into the profile once raised, and Glass Series glazing. We also install Biossun pergolas, made in Isère.
Can a pergola be fitted to a stone house in Cap Corse?
Yes, if the wall can carry it. At the technical visit, we look at the stone, the joints and the thickness of the wall. If it is not suitable, the pergola stands on its own posts, without loading the façade. See our page on the bioclimatic pergola.
Does a bioclimatic pergola stand up to sea spray in the Cap?

Bioclimatic pergola or fabric pergola for a house in the Cap?
The bioclimatic type has a roof of adjustable aluminium louvres. The fabric pergola has a fabric roof that slides and folds back. The choice depends on the terrace, its exposure and how you use it: we discuss it at the technical visit.
