Made-to-measure bioclimatic pergola in Corsica

Pergola made to measure in Corsica: shade and air on your terrace.

We design and install made-to-measure bioclimatic pergolas, suited to conditions in Corsica. Their adjustable louvres control sunlight and ventilation, summer and winter alike. We work across the island: Ajaccio, Bastia, Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio, Île-Rousse and elsewhere.

The structure is aluminium, robust and precisely made. It comes from Biossun, a manufacturer founded in 2009, and Victor Paquelet, who runs LumiDesign, has been installing pergolas since 2015. We design each pergola for the place where it will stand, on a terrace, by a pool or in a garden, so that it fits in and lasts.

The need

What a terrace in Corsica has to face.

The sun is intense, temperatures are high and winds are strong.

Describe my outdoor space
Intense sunshine
You adjust the louvres for more or less shade.
High temperatures
Between the adjustable louvres, air flows and ventilates the terrace.
Bad weather
The adjustable louvres also protect you from the weather.
Strong winds
Our pergolas are designed to withstand Corsica's strong winds.
A terrace, a poolside, a garden
We design each pergola for the place where it will be installed.

Adjustable louvres Made of aluminium, they pivot to control the sun and let the air through. When closed, they fit tightly together.

Integrated gutter The edge beams conceal a gutter: it collects water from the louvres and carries it down to the posts.

Motorisation The louvres are motorised and operated by remote control.

Vertical blind As an option, a motorised blind lowers down the side.

Kettal furniture A lounge and a coffee table in the spirit of the Kettal collections, which we offer. Illustrative only.

LED strip A continuous strip built into the beams. Its light is indirect: it grazes the louvres. Dimmable white or RGB, depending on the model.

Slatted screen As an option, one side closes with a slatted screen, with fixed or adjustable slats.

Aluminium structure Four powder-coated posts carry the roof. Rainwater runs down inside; there is no visible gutter.

Wall lights On the house wall, two lights take over in the evening. They are not part of the pergola.

The bioclimatic pergola, in situ

You set the light.

  1. In the morning, the louvres open in line with the sun and let the light in. In the morning, the louvres open to the sun.
  2. At midday, they tilt. The shade is striped and the air circulates. At midday, they tilt, the air circulates.
  3. In the evening, they open to the sky and the shadow lengthens across the terrace. In the evening, they open to the sky.
  4. If it rains, they close: the water runs down through the posts. If it rains, they close tightly.
  5. At night, the LED strip lights the underside of the louvres, all around the frame. At night, the LED strip lights the louvres.

Bioclimatic pergola in Corte

What changes in Corte.

  1. Summer

Shade, with the air flowing through.

In summer in Corte, heat builds up in the valley and a south-facing terrace quickly becomes unbearable in the afternoon. With the louvres closed, the bioclimatic pergola cuts out the sun; with them half open, it lets the hot air escape and the breeze pass through. That is what sets it apart from a solid roof, under which the heat stays trapped.

At Pratic, the louvres rotate up to 140° on the Opera and Vision models; on the Brera, they slide and stack away to open up the sky. Biossun, which makes its pergolas in Isère, controls shade and ventilation in the same way with its adjustable louvres. We install both brands.

    See the Biossun pergolas
  2. Winter

In winter, we open up to the sun.

Winter is cold in Corte and every ray counts. A solid-roofed canopy would keep the terrace, and the room opening onto it, in shade until spring. With adjustable louvres, you open them wide on clear days, and the low winter light can reach all the way to the window.

Frost, and the snow that falls on the heights, raise another question: how the structure and the roof hold up through the cold months. We do not settle it from a catalogue. During the technical visit, we look at your site, its height in the valley and what it gets in winter, and we discuss it with you before choosing the model.

    See our bioclimatic pergolas
  3. Storms

When the storm comes down from the mountain.

In the mountains, a summer afternoon can end in a downpour. This is how Pratic describes its bioclimatic pergolas: with the louvres closed, the rain is channelled into integrated drainage, then runs down to the ground through gutters hidden in the posts. The manufacturer also offers weather sensors as an option.

On the sides, Raso vertical blinds or Glass Series glazing close the pergola when the wind turns or the evening turns cool, which happens quickly here after a hot day. Against a stone house, we also look at how to fix the structure to the wall and where to send the water.

Your questions, our answers.

Do you install bioclimatic pergolas in Corte?

Yes, in Corte and in the villages of the surrounding valleys, from our showroom in Porticcio. We first come to carry out the technical visit at your home, then our team installs the pergola. Describe your terrace in the quote request.

What happens to a bioclimatic pergola in winter in Corte?

It is used differently. On clear days, you open the louvres to let the low winter sun warm the terrace and the façade. For frost and snow, we do not answer from a distance: performance depends on the model and the location, and we look at it with you during the technical visit.

Does a bioclimatic pergola protect from a summer storm?

With the louvres closed, it shelters from the rain. On its bioclimatic pergolas, Pratic channels the water into integrated drainage, then into gutters hidden in the posts, and offers weather sensors as an option. Vertical blinds can close the sides when the wind turns.

Bioclimatic pergola or fabric-roof pergola for a terrace in Corte?

The bioclimatic pergola has a roof of adjustable aluminium louvres; the fabric-roof pergola has a fabric roof that slides and folds back. The choice depends on the terrace and its exposure: we discuss it on site.

How much does a bioclimatic pergola cost in Corte?

Each pergola is made to measure: its price depends on the model, the dimensions and the options. We price it on quotation, after the technical visit. To get an idea of the shape, try the configurator.

How can I contact you to discuss my bioclimatic pergola project?

Our team answers your questions and presents our services. You can reach us in three ways:

What is a bioclimatic pergola and what are its advantages?

A bioclimatic pergola is an outdoor structure whose roof is made of adjustable louvres. By tilting them, you control the sunlight, ventilation and protection from the weather. Shade and airflow thus adapt to every season.

What materials are used to make the bioclimatic pergolas?

Our bioclimatic pergolas are made mainly of aluminium. It is a robust material that withstands the weather and needs little maintenance. We choose high quality materials so that the pergola lasts and stays beautiful.

Is a bioclimatic pergola suited to the Corsican climate?

Yes. Our pergolas are designed to withstand Corsican conditions, in particular strong winds and intense sunshine. When it is very hot, the adjustable louvres ensure good ventilation.
