The story of Casa Lumi

Here you stay out of doors in every season, whatever the weather.

At Casa Lumi, LumiDesign installed a made-to-measure bioclimatic pergola above a deck, between a dry-stone wall and the sea.

It shelters the house’s large table and barbecue area, and reaches out over the pool. Its adjustable louvres open to the sky or close into a solid roof, and the pergola has a temperature control system. Here you stay out of doors in every season, whatever the weather.

    What the photographs show

The photographs of Casa Lumi show a bioclimatic pergola with adjustable louvres installed above a deck, cantilevered over the pool, facing the gulf. With the louvres open, the sky shows through and the floor is striped with shadow. With them closed, under the cumulus, the roof is solid. Beneath it are a large table along the dry-stone wall, a barbecue area under the corner of the roof and a long sofa. This is how a bioclimatic pergola works: you angle the louvres to set the shade, light and air, and close them when it rains.
