LumiDesign project in Corsica: bespoke bioclimatic pergola and blinds Casa Monte

Casa Monte has two bioclimatic pergolas, both anthracite grey with pale louvres. The upper terrace one stands against the villa, on a stone base, and covers the lounge and the table in a single span. The pool one shelters a corner sofa against a stone wall. The photographs show the louvres closed, as a continuous ceiling, then half open, when they stripe the tiles with shadow. The film shows the movement: the louvres pivot and the sky appears. A plate on a post bears the manufacturer’s name, Biossun.

The blind at Casa Monte is a pale screen blind, fitted between two posts of the large pergola, on the lounge side. The photographs show it at half height. It cuts out the low sun at the end of the day, while the rest of the terrace stays open to the olive trees and the hills. Raised, it leaves the view clear. That is what a vertical blind on a pergola is for: you close one side against the sun, the wind or prying eyes when you need to, then raise it again.
