Large glazed openings
Keeping the sea, leaving the heat outside.
Villas facing the sea, in L’Île-Rousse as on the slopes of Monticello, often have large glazed areas. In summer, the sun passes through the glass and heats the floors; an interior blind only holds in heat that is already inside. The brise-soleil sits in front, outside.
As a fixed canopy above a south-facing opening, it blocks the high summer sun and lets in the lower winter sun. Adjustable, it follows the sun hour by hour, and can plunge the room into half-light whenever you wish.
Tellier Brise-Soleil designs and manufactures aluminium and timber brise-soleil, fixed or adjustable, in Chemillé-en-Anjou, in the Maine-et-Loire. For the coast, the manufacturer states Qualicoat, Seaside or Qualimarine certified finishes depending on the case.
On pale render or on stone, the colour of the slats matters as much as their angle. We choose with you, on site, the shade, the fixing points and the upkeep to plan for against the salt air.
An adjustable brise-soleil is raised when the wind gets up on the coast. Roma offers a wind sensor that raises the slats above a set threshold, and a sun sensor that lowers them again when the sun beats down. Roma states that up to 75% of the sun’s heat is reflected before it reaches the glazing.
Bandalux states that its Z70 and Z90 BSO withstand winds up to 76 km/h, class 5 under the EN 13659 standard. For a window far from any power supply, Roma offers a solar version, with panel and battery, that needs no mains connection.

Fixed canopy or adjustable brise-soleil: which to choose?
A fixed canopy needs nothing: shade in summer, sun in winter. The adjustable version controls the light all day and lifts in the wind. It all depends on the facade and how the room is used; our page on adjustable brise-soleil covers both.
Can an aluminium brise-soleil withstand sea air?
It is first a question of finish. Tellier states Qualicoat, Seaside or Qualimarine certified finishes depending on the case. At the visit, we look at how exposed the facade is to sea spray.
Can an adjustable brise-soleil run by itself while I am away?
Yes, with sensors. With Roma, a wind sensor raises the slats above a set threshold and a sun sensor lowers them: practical for a house that is often closed.
How much does a brise-soleil cost in L’Île-Rousse?
