Fabric A blackout fabric makes the room dark, a light-filtering fabric softens the light, and some let you see through.

Side channels On each side, they guide the fabric; the bottom bar keeps it taut.

You control the light.

  1. In the morning, the sun is still in the east. The blinds stay up and the view is clear. In the morning, the blinds stay up.
  2. At noon, it is at its highest, due south. The south blinds come down: the sun stays outside. At noon, the south blinds come down.
  3. In the late afternoon, it comes in from the west. As the fabric comes down, the patch of sun shrinks. At 5 pm, the sun comes in from the west.
  4. In the evening, it skims the horizon. With the fabric down, it no longer dazzles. In the evening, fabric down, no more glare.

What changes in Bastia.

  1. The balcony

    Little space, plenty of sun.

    A Bastia balcony is often narrow. There is no room for a parasol: the shade has to come from the wall or the ceiling. A cassette awning is fixed there, and the fabric retracts into its cassette when not in use.

    Pratic’s T-Hide, T-Code, T-Way and Flex Box awnings are fitted to the wall or the ceiling, so they can be hung under the balcony above. Their aluminium cassette carries LED lighting, useful on a balcony where you dine late.

  2. The exposed side

    Closing the side that catches the wind.

    The morning sun comes in low, head-on, under the projection of an awning. A vertical blind cuts it better: it comes down in front of the window or closes one side of the balcony. On zip screens, the fabric is held in its side channels by a zip and does not flap in the wind.

    Bandalux rates its Z-Box 6 for wind under the EN 13561 standard. Roma states wind resistance up to 120 km/h for its fabric blinds, depending on their size and mounting. Pratic highlights its Magnetic Lock System, which re-engages the fabric of a vertical blind after a gust.

  3. Shared ownership

    The fabric the building will accept.

    In a shared building, the awning can be seen from the street and affects the façade. The rules sometimes impose a fabric colour or a type of awning for the whole building: better to know before choosing, and to talk to the managing agent.

    For the fabric, Serge Ferrari intends its Soltis 96 for awnings: micro-perforated, it lets air through and keeps the view towards the harbour. For vertical blinds, it states up to 87% of heat blocked with Soltis 86, a maximum specific to certain colours.
