Fabric A blackout fabric makes the room dark, a light-filtering fabric softens the light, and some let you see through.

Side channels On each side, they guide the fabric; the bottom bar keeps it taut.

Exterior blind Fitted in front of the glazing, it stops the sun before it comes in.

The blind, in context

You control the light.

  1. In the morning, the sun is still in the east. The blinds stay up and the view is clear. In the morning, the blinds stay up.
  2. At noon, it is at its highest, due south. The south blinds come down: the sun stays outside. At noon, the south blinds come down.
  3. In the late afternoon, it comes in from the west. As the fabric comes down, the patch of sun shrinks. At 5 pm, the sun comes in from the west.
  4. In the evening, it skims the horizon. With the fabric down, it no longer dazzles. In the evening, fabric down, no more glare.

Awnings and blinds in Bonifacio

What changes in Bonifacio.

  1. The upper town

    A balcony, a narrow façade.

    In the upper town, the houses touch and the balconies are narrow. An awning fixed to the wall or ceiling gives shade there without a single foot on the ground. Pratic’s awnings house their arms and fabric in an aluminium cassette, with LED lighting in the cassette: once retracted, the awning stays discreet on the façade.

    Installation means knowing the wall: old stone, render, thickness, what lies behind it. That is the purpose of the technical visit, along with access, which in the narrow lanes decides how the equipment reaches you.

  2. Wind

    Folding away or holding firm.

    An awning is made for shade, not for staying extended in a gust of wind. In Bonifacio, where the west wind rises quickly, a motorised awning is better, retracted as soon as it blows. On its folding-arm awnings, Pratic highlights an in-house patent, FlexControl. Bandalux, for its part, offers wind, sun and temperature sensors that adjust its awnings automatically.

    To close off one side of a terrace or shade a window facing the strait, the zip screen goes further: its fabric is held in its side channels by a zip and does not flap in the wind. Bandalux classifies its Z-Box 6 for wind under the EN 13561 standard, the highest rating. At Pratic, the Magnetic Lock System re-engages the fabric of the vertical blinds after a gust.

  3. The fabric

    A fabric under a white sun.

    On the limestone, the light is strong and bounces back from everywhere. Serge Ferrari intends its Soltis 96 for awnings: micro-perforated, it lets air through, keeps the sea view and limits the heat building up underneath. The manufacturer states a 5-year warranty on its Soltis fabrics; this is its own warranty, on the fabric alone and on its terms.

    A micro-perforated fabric lets water through as well as air: the awning is for sun, not rain. For a terrace you want sheltered in every season, the bioclimatic pergola is the better answer. We talk it over with you at the Porticcio showroom or at your home, during the visit.

Do you install awnings in Bonifacio?

Yes: awnings, zip screens, vertical blinds. Our showroom is in Porticcio, near Ajaccio, and we work throughout Corsica. We come to Bonifacio for the technical visit, then our team installs the awning. All our models are on our made-to-measure awningspage.

Will an awning stand up to the wind in Bonifacio?

An awning is for shade; you retract it when the wind picks up, and the west wind picks up often here. A motor makes that easy. Pratic highlights its FlexControl patent on its folding-arm awnings. For protection that stays in place, look instead at the zip screen or the bioclimatic pergola.

Which awning for a balcony in Bonifacio’s upper town?

Often an awning on the wall or ceiling, which takes up no floor space. Its aluminium cassette protects the fabric once retracted. The choice depends on the wall and the access, which we check during the technical visit. You can also sketch your awning in the configurator.

Zip screen or awning for a villa facing the sea?

An awning projects over the terrace; a zip screen drops vertically, in front of a window or along one side, and its fabric, held by a zip, does not flap in the wind. Bandalux classifies its Z-Box 6 for wind under the EN 13561 standard. On a windswept plateau, the two often complement each other.
