We design and install made-to-measure bioclimatic pergolas, suited to conditions in Corsica. Their adjustable louvres control sunlight and ventilation, summer and winter alike. We work across the island: Ajaccio, Bastia, Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio, Île-Rousse and elsewhere.
The structure is aluminium, robust and precisely made. It comes from Biossun, a manufacturer founded in 2009, and Victor Paquelet, who runs LumiDesign, has been installing pergolas since 2015. We design each pergola for the place where it will stand, on a terrace, by a pool or in a garden, so that it fits in and lasts.

Aluminium structureFour powder-coated posts carry the roof. Rainwater runs down inside; there is no visible gutter.

Biossun states that all its models are certified by the CSTB, the French Scientific and Technical Centre for Building, with which it has worked since 2013. According to the manufacturer, this certification guarantees that the pergola withstands everyday weather conditions.

In Bastia, the largest outdoor area is often the roof. A pergola turns it into a room you use from morning to evening: louvres open, the sea air flows through; louvres closed, you can eat outside even in a shower.
On a roof, the first question is not the model but the structure. You need to know where to fix the posts without damaging the waterproofing, what the slab can carry, and where the rainwater will drain. That is what we look at first during the technical visit.
Wind and salt
The libeccio and the sea air.
When the libeccio comes down from the mountain, a high terrace takes it head-on. So the model and its position are chosen according to the terrace itself: its exposure, the neighbouring walls, the side the gusts come from.
For salt, Pratic states an aluminium pretreatment certified Qualicoat Seaside and Qualicoat Class 2 powder coatings, designed for salt, humidity and UV. Biossun states that all its models are certified by the CSTB. Near the harbour, we also discuss maintenance with you.
We install Biossun bioclimatic pergolas, made in Isère, and those of the Italian maker Pratic, whose louvres rotate, slide or stack depending on the model. On Pratic pergolas, water from the closed louvres drains through gutters hidden in the posts.
In a courtyard surrounded by walls, the pergola is attached to the house; on an open roof, it stands on its own. The sides can be closed if needed, with Pratic’s Raso vertical blinds or Glass Series glazing, which shelters the dining area from gusts.

Can a pergola be installed on a roof terrace in Bastia?
Often, yes, but it has to be checked on site: fixing the posts, waterproofing, rainwater drainage. If you are in a shared building, the co-owners’ general meeting may need to agree. On the planning side, a prior declaration is enough in most cases, and we help you with these formalities.
Can a bioclimatic pergola withstand the libeccio?
How well it holds depends as much on the terrace as on the model. During the visit, we look with you at its exposure and the wind it gets, then we choose the pergola and its position accordingly. Our bioclimatic pergola page details the louvres and the structure.
Biossun or Pratic: which to choose for Bastia?
We install both. Biossun manufactures in Isère; Pratic designs its pergolas in Friuli, with louvres that rotate, slide or stack. The choice is made at your home, based on the space, the structure and the exposure.

What is a bioclimatic pergola and what are its advantages?
