Made-to-measure bioclimatic pergola in Corsica

Pergola made to measure in Corsica: shade and air on your terrace.

We design and install made-to-measure bioclimatic pergolas, suited to conditions in Corsica. Their adjustable louvres control sunlight and ventilation, summer and winter alike. We work across the island: Ajaccio, Bastia, Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio, Île-Rousse and elsewhere.

The structure is aluminium, robust and precisely made. It comes from Biossun, a manufacturer founded in 2009, and Victor Paquelet, who runs LumiDesign, has been installing pergolas since 2015. We design each pergola for the place where it will stand, on a terrace, by a pool or in a garden, so that it fits in and lasts.

The need

What a terrace in Corsica has to face.

The sun is intense, temperatures are high and winds are strong.

Describe my outdoor space
Intense sunshine
You adjust the louvres for more or less shade.
High temperatures
Between the adjustable louvres, air flows and ventilates the terrace.
Bad weather
The adjustable louvres also protect you from the weather.
Strong winds
Our pergolas are designed to withstand Corsica's strong winds.
A terrace, a poolside, a garden
We design each pergola for the place where it will be installed.

Adjustable louvres Made of aluminium, they pivot to control the sun and let the air through. When closed, they fit tightly together.

Integrated gutter The edge beams conceal a gutter: it collects water from the louvres and carries it down to the posts.

Motorisation The louvres are motorised and operated by remote control.

Vertical blind As an option, a motorised blind lowers down the side.

Kettal furniture A lounge and a coffee table in the spirit of the Kettal collections, which we offer. Illustrative only.

LED strip A continuous strip built into the beams. Its light is indirect: it grazes the louvres. Dimmable white or RGB, depending on the model.

Slatted screen As an option, one side closes with a slatted screen, with fixed or adjustable slats.

Aluminium structure Four powder-coated posts carry the roof. Rainwater runs down inside; there is no visible gutter.

Wall lights On the house wall, two lights take over in the evening. They are not part of the pergola.

You set the light.

  1. In the morning, the louvres open in line with the sun and let the light in. In the morning, the louvres open to the sun.
  2. At midday, they tilt. The shade is striped and the air circulates. At midday, they tilt, the air circulates.
  3. In the evening, they open to the sky and the shadow lengthens across the terrace. In the evening, they open to the sky.
  4. If it rains, they close: the water runs down through the posts. If it rains, they close tightly.
  5. At night, the LED strip lights the underside of the louvres, all around the frame. At night, the LED strip lights the louvres.

Bioclimatic pergola in Bonifacio

What changes in Bonifacio.

Paved terrace at sunset: sofa with rust-coloured cushions, blue coffee table, woven armchair, two sun loungers under a parasol, dry-stone walls and lavender; in the distance, the upper town of Bonifacio on its cliffs above the sea.

  1. The roof

    Louvres you can tilt.

A bioclimatic pergola is an aluminium structure topped with motorised louvres. By tilting them, you choose how much sun comes in and how much air passes through. In Bonifacio, where the pale stone reflects the light, being able to open the roof slightly in the afternoon lets the heat escape instead of trapping it under the pergola. With Pratic, when the louvres are closed, rain runs into an integrated drainage system, then down through gutters hidden in the posts.

We install two manufacturers. Biossun, founded in 2009, makes its pergolas in Isère and states that all its models are certified by the CSTB. Pratic, in Fagagna in Friuli, offers three movements: louvres that pivot up to 140°, others that slide to open up the sky, others that lift and stack.

    See the Biossun pergolas
  2. Wind and salt

    Anchored against the west wind.

The west wind crossing the Bouches often arrives head-on at the villas on the plateau. A pergola there is planned first through its supports: what the posts stand on, what it is fixed into, which wall it backs onto, which side stays open. That is what we look at during the technical visit, terrace by terrace, before proposing a model and dimensions.

Salt is the other issue. Pratic states that its aluminium has a Qualicoat Seaside certified pretreatment and Qualicoat Class 2 approved powder coatings, designed for salt, humidity and UV. On a terrace that sea spray reaches, we also discuss with you the location and the upkeep to plan for.

    See Pratic pergolas
  3. Your terrace

    Large villa or town rooftop.

Out towards Santa Manza, Piantarella or Sperone, the pergola often covers a large sea-facing terrace: dining area, summer kitchen, lounge. When the wind turns, sides can be closed: Pratic offers Raso vertical blinds, which disappear into the profile once raised, and Glass Series glazing, sliding, fixed or hinged.

In the upper town, space is tight and access is through narrow lanes. Before talking about models, we check what can be brought to your home and what the structure can rest on. For a house let in season, motorised louvres are effortless to operate.

Your questions, our answers.

Do you install bioclimatic pergolas in Bonifacio?

Yes. Our showroom is in Porticcio, near Ajaccio, and we work throughout Corsica, Bonifacio included. The technical visit takes place at your home: measurements, mounting surface, exposure, access. Then our team installs the pergola.

Will a bioclimatic pergola stand up to the wind in Bonifacio?

Wind is the first question we ask ourselves here. Resistance depends on the model, the dimensions and above all the supports: during the technical visit, we look at the mounting surface and how the terrace catches the west wind, then propose the pergola accordingly. Biossun states that all its models are certified by the CSTB.

Do you need permission to install a pergola in Bonifacio?

In most cases, a prior declaration of works is enough. Above 20 m², or in a protected area, planning permission may be required: in an old district such as the upper town, check with the town hall before starting the project. We help you with these formalities.

Biossun or Pratic: which pergola for a villa facing the sea?

We install both. Biossun makes its bioclimatic pergolas in Isère; Pratic states that its aluminium has a Qualicoat Seaside certified pretreatment, designed for salt. For a fabric roof rather than louvres, see also the fabric pergola. The choice is made at your home, with the terrace in front of you.

How much does a bioclimatic pergola cost in Bonifacio?

Each pergola is made to measure: its price depends on the model, dimensions and options. We give it in a quote, after the technical visit.

How can I contact you to discuss my bioclimatic pergola project?

Our team answers your questions and presents our services. You can reach us in three ways:

What is a bioclimatic pergola and what are its advantages?

A bioclimatic pergola is an outdoor structure whose roof is made of adjustable louvres. By tilting them, you control the sunlight, ventilation and protection from the weather. Shade and airflow thus adapt to every season.

What materials are used to make the bioclimatic pergolas?

Our bioclimatic pergolas are made mainly of aluminium. It is a robust material that withstands the weather and needs little maintenance. We choose high quality materials so that the pergola lasts and stays beautiful.

Is a bioclimatic pergola suited to the Corsican climate?

Yes. Our pergolas are designed to withstand Corsican conditions, in particular strong winds and intense sunshine. When it is very hot, the adjustable louvres ensure good ventilation.
